What started as a simple conversation in an office in New York on some of the needs of the African continent led to a very enriching experience with the Water for Humanity project in 2010 which involved the construction of solar powered mechanized boreholes for communities lacking potable water. The project sparked a desire in Afetsi Awoonor to help address the basic socioeconomic needs of local communities in Ghana.
Through the project, he was exposed to the possibility that with access to funding and a committed team of problem-solvers, he can bring hope and transformation to local communities in Ghana and in turn Africa. Herein lies the idea that has birthed the Afetsi Awoonor Foundation. The Foundation represents a mission to contribute to the development of a society in which every young person is confident in realizing their full potential.
Thorough research, it was hard to miss that within every society in Ghana, young people are eagerly searching for opportunities to either develop a skill, secure a scholarship to study abroad, secure a good-paying job, find startup capital for a business, or are simply in search of some guidance and direction.
All these, you will agree, hinge on the fact that opportunity is hard to come by. While this is a fact, we are confronted with another truth. Are young people prepared for the opportunities they seek?
Perhaps, the balance needed for a thriving society is to offer the platform for the opportunity-seeker to gain the requisite skills, knowledge and abilities to realize their goals, expectations or dreams even as such opportunities they seek are made available or accessible to them.
The Afetsi Awoonor Foundation is an organization dedicated to developing the human resource potential of Ghana to create a stable and cohesive society through self-sufficient individuals. We believe a country is best served with a resilient, healthy, capable and functional human resource base.
Our efforts aim at ensuring that the average Ghanaian is economically self-sufficient and capable of participating in the development of our nation and continent.
